DreamWorks Animation has named ToyQuest the company’s toy licensee for their 2010 movie, MegaMind.

ToyQuest will produce a comprehensive line of products that includes action figures, vehicles, plush, role-play products and playsets. The entire line will be available fall 2010.

“DreamWorks Animation is delivering another exciting new family entertainment property in Megamind that we believe offers a storyline and characters that will capture the imaginations of many children,” said Peter Magalhaes, ToyQuest’s Vice President of Business Development. “ToyQuest is thrilled to re-imagine Megamind’s dynamic world in a compelling new line of toys through which kids can enjoy hours of fun and games.”

We have not had the opportunity to delve into any of the sparse info surrounding DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming super hero/villain movie MegaMind.  So to shed some light for the uninformed, here are some bold and feisty little bullet points:

  • Started out under the working title of Master Mind then went to Oobermind, and finally MegaMind
  • Super villain “MegaMind” thought he would be happy after defeating arch rival “Metro Man.” Instead, MegaMind sees his life as meaningless without his foe
  • The premise sounds a lot like the live-action film, Mystery Men which starred Ben Stiller. Stiller was the first choice for the role of “MegaMind” and is serving as executive director
  • After Stiller, Robert Downey, Jr. was targeted to play “MegaMind” but declined. Will Ferrell has since been cast as the lead voice
  • Brad Pitt will play the role of “Metro Man”
  • Slated for a November 5, 2010 release

wow! First Despicable Me now it’s MegaMind! What’s up with all of the animated movies based on the bad guys? Despicable Me looks pretty good so far though.
