On January 18, 1992, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast became the first animated feature to capture a Golden Globe award for Best Picture – Musical or Comedy.  The highly regarded film topped nominees City Slickers, Fried Green Tomatoes, The Commitments and The Fisher King. That night, Beauty and the Beast also won for Best Original Score (Alan Menken).

Since the breakthrough of Beauty and the Beast, there have been two other animated features which also won for Best Picture — Lion King and Toy Story 2.

#1 Cheryl W :

Beauty and the Beast has been and will always be my very favorite Disney film. Although, I must say that I am smitten with The Princess and the Frog.

Smitten! I love that word. They were supposed to re-release Beauty and the Beast in digital 3D this year, but I believe it has been pushed back to 2011.
