“Ice Age” Creators Going To “Rio” Next

A trailer for a new film entitled Rio released today. Fox Animation Studios – who have brought you the three Ice Age films (and the apparent fourth one currently in development), are bringing you a new bird-themed film in Rio.

The trailer, which of course boasts that the film will be in 3D, introduces us to a trio of birds perched atop a cliff with two of them trying to encourage one of them to take the leap and learn to fly. As a teaser, it’s entertaining enough, but I’m not sure it’s enough of a hook to make animation buffs eager to catch this one when it takes flight next Easter.

Directed by Carlos Saldanha, the voice cast for Rio includes Neil Patrick Harris, Anne Hathaway, George Lopez and Rodrigo Santoro, and is slated for an April 8, 2011 release.

I love this movie franchise and could watch them every year, but I hope they step it up in this new film because I felt the Dawn of the Dinosaurs was lacking just a tad. Still love the Ice Ages.
