About the Video Games

As Megamind, players must defend the city after his untested and unstable inventions are stolen by a group of new enemies called “The Doom Syndicate”. To defeat these vile villains, players will have to operate a variety of Mega-Gadgets, including Tesla Gloves, the Battlesuit and Sticky Boots, as well as build ingenious inventions such as the Mega Essence Tracker and the Bio Essence Neutralizer. The game also offers six side mission mini-games and cooperative play with one of Megamind’s trusty Brainbots.

No biggie. (Or so I though after round 1). Round 2 was a bit more challenging and by the time I finally got through round 3, I had already slid down from my computer chair and cried tiny puddles of despicable failure.

But all jokes aside — really, I was joking about crying. WHAT!? I was!! — Work It! is a nice little game that actually rewards players with much needed time bonuses for subsequent rounds based on your previous performance. I even landed a cool Minion desktop wallpaper for my complete mastery last second desperation mouse click on round 3. Who knows what other cool prizes are to be had later in the game, because I’m hilariously confused by all the distractions in round 4.

I will get back on that horse, but for now I need to walk away, let off some steam, regain focus, down a glass of raw eggs, etc.

Do yourself a favor and go try out this great, challenging game

In the virtual world, Disney/Pixar offers up an online outlet for children of all ages to release their inner-Andretti with “The World of Cars Online.”

World of Cars Online is a virtual world based on the hit Disney/Pixar animated feature CARS. Get ready for a high-octane ride full of fun and adventure where YOU are the Car. Design your car, play games, and make new friends. Learn to race like a pro from Lightning McQueen or cruise around and tip tractors. Why? Because you can! Now’s your chance to hang in the Cars world – it’s free to play but access to special features requires a subscription.

The first order of business prior to entering Radiator Springs is to create your car. Players can choose gender, eye color, model, name, number and color. The initial customization options are fairly limited, but when The World of Cars Online moves from open beta to an official release, many in-game items can be had within the “body shop” in exchange for money earned during gameplay. And speaking of gameplay … what exactly goes on in this world of muscle cars and slick speedsters you ask? Well, racing, of course, is the focal point. However, players can take part in missions such as finding and gathering certain items at the request of characters, the ultra-fun practice of “tractor-tipping,” and the ability to chat via keyboard with other players.

During the time myself and my little guy spent with “World of Cars,” I must say that we had a blast. The Cars license lends itself very well to being an effective online community. As mentioned though, the full experience will not be made available during its beta stage. But those parents who choose to fork over $5.95/mo. for “sponsorship” will have access to many accessories and privileges once the full release hits. (as well as a few exclusives during beta). For more info about sponsorship, go here. But for now, gas up and hit the road. Just stay outta my way!

It has been commonplace for film properties to branch out in numerous entertainment avenues to capitalize on the popularity of their box office presence. Unfortunately, you could probably count on one hand three fingers how many movie-to-video game translations have actually been successful. Toy Story 3 will no doubt be a smash hit film for the ages. But what about Toy Story 3: The Video Game? Can Pixar and game developer, Avalanche, make a worthy enough interactive companion? Or will it just fall by the wayside like so many other failed attempts at capturing movie magic in the video game world?

Here are a few behind-the-scenes vignettes detailing the production process and creative energy put forth in trying to make Toy Story 3: The Video Game a viable family entertainment option. The most promising aspect of TS3TVG is an open-environment “Toy Box Mode.” Learn more about this customizable experience from the team behind the game.
