Your guess is as good as mine. All I know about Rango is that it’s an animated project directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) and stars Johnny Depp voicing the main character, whom — according to several short plot descriptions — is a chameleon with an identity crisis.

Watch the teaser below, but also feel free to check out the official movie web site. You’ll be greeted with the same backdrop as seen in the trailer, but there are a lot more things going on. And by “a lot more,” I simply mean the occasional vehicle passing by, tumbleweeds, circling birds and a roadrunner (which may or may not be a character from the movie). Who knows? If you stick around long enough, maybe you will spot some more occurrences of interest.

But I personally don’t have time for that, I have a Smurfs movie to go complain about.

The first official trailer for a video game adaptation of DreamWorks Animation’s Megamind film was shown during the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo. Shown below is “Megamind: Ultimate Showdown” for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 — one of several games based on the upcoming movie starring Will Ferrell and Brad Pitt to be hitting gaming consoles and handhelds this Fall.

Will it be a Mega-flop like most movie video game tie-ins, or will it live up to its “Bad. Blue. Brilliant.” tagline? We’ll keep an eye out.

Sure, Steve Carell is the headliner for Despicable Me, but it would be foolish to overlook the enormous amount of comedic talent filling in the gaps. Will Arnett, Russell Brand, Jason Segel and Kristen Wiig among others do their best to keep the film fun and the studio in stitches.

This clip of Zack Snyder’s upcoming animated tale “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’hoole,” features the director and his wife — who served as Executive Producer — briefly discussing the look and feel of the stunning film. Honestly, I am still having a hard time wrapping my head around what seems to be a fairly serious flick, BUT starring a parliament of creepy-looking ‘Woodsy the Owls.’ But I have faith in Snyder. Having directed 300 and Watchmen he has certainly proven to be capable of endearing adaptations, and I can say with utmost certainty that I am at least impressed with the excellent visuals to this point.

Buzz, Woody and the gang stumble upon Google and try to use the popular search engine for various nonsensical research. (don’t we all)? But when they spot Andy’s online to-do list, their imagination gets the best of them in this featurette.

Alpha and Omega is an upcoming animated 3-D film being released by Lionsgate featuring the voices of Justin Long, Hayden Panettiere and Dennis Hopper.

What makes for the ultimate road trip? Hitchhiking, truck stops, angry bears, prickly porcupines and a golfing goose with a duck caddy. Just ask Kate and Humphrey, two wolves who are trying to get home after being taken by park rangers and shipped halfway across the country. Humphrey is an Omega wolf, whose days are about quick wit, snappy one-liners and hanging with his motley crew of fun-loving wolves and video-gaming squirrels. Kate is an Alpha: duty, discipline and sleek Lara Croft eye-popping moves fuel her fire. Humphrey’s motto – make ‘em laugh. Kate’s motto – I’m the boss. And they have a thousand miles to go.

Far be it for me to judge a movie simply on a short preview, but I must say that what I do see here — and know about the plot — does not stir up any kind of anticipation for this effort. I mean, sure, it may be directed toward younger kids (which is fine), but among today’s animated film offerings, the most successful ones appeal to all ages in some way or another. I just don’t get a sense of mass appeal here. To be fair, I will certainly keep an eye on news items surrounding Alpha and Omega and hopefully the finished product will disprove my premature analysis.

One of the latest trailers for the upcoming Despicable Me features narrative from the film’s voice cast including Steve Carell who plays main character, Gru. The trailer goes a little bit deeper into one of the side-stories which features Gru adapting to being a father figure for three orphaned girls. The more I see of this animated effort, the more confident I become that this won’t just be a summer movie afterthought.

What’s a hit movie without a lackluster video game accompanying it? It has been commonplace for film properties to branch out in numerous entertainment avenues to capitalize on the popularity of their box office presence. Unfortunately, you could probably count on one hand three fingers how many movie-to-video game translations have actually been successful. Toy Story 3 will no doubt be a smash hit film for the ages. But what about Toy Story 3: The Video Game? Can Pixar and game developer, Avalanche, make a worthy enough interactive companion? Or will it just fall by the wayside like so many other failed attempts at capturing movie magic in the video game world?
